Application steps

Step 1 — Prep your surface

Wipe down the surface with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely. Remove any oils, dirt, or residue. A clean surface is the single most important factor for a strong, lasting bond.

Step 2 — Peel and position

Peel back a corner of the release liner. Align the wrap to your surface before pressing down — the 3M adhesive is repositionable until firm pressure is applied, so take your time getting the placement right.

Step 3 — Apply with firm pressure

Slowly peel the liner away while pressing the wrap firmly onto the surface. Work from the center outward to avoid air bubbles. Press firmly along all edges and corners to fully activate the adhesive bond.

Step 4 — Trim to fit

Use sharp scissors or a utility knife to trim any excess material. Cut slowly along edges for a clean finish. For curved surfaces, make small relief cuts so the wrap lays flat without bunching.

Step 5 — Singe the edges (optional)

For an ultra-clean finish, lightly pass a lighter or heat gun along the trimmed edges to seal the Cordura fibers. Keep the flame moving — a quick pass is all you need. This prevents fraying over time and gives your wrap a professional look.

Pro tips

Surface prep is everything

Even a small amount of oil or residue will weaken the bond. Use 70% or 90% isopropyl alcohol and let it fully evaporate before applying — don't wipe it dry with a cloth.

Warm surfaces bond better

If you're applying in cold weather, warm the surface slightly with your hands or a heat gun before applying. The 3M adhesive bonds stronger to a warm surface than a cold one.

Sharp blade, slow cuts

A dull blade drags and distorts the Cordura fibers. Use a fresh utility knife blade or sharp scissors and cut slowly — you'll get a much cleaner edge with less effort.

Singe lightly, don't burn

When singeing edges, a quick 1-second pass is all it takes. Hold the flame 1–2 inches away and keep it moving. Lingering causes discoloration. Practice on a scrap piece first if you're new to it.

Give it 24 hours to fully cure

The 3M adhesive reaches full bond strength after 24 hours. Your wrap will hold immediately but avoid soaking or heavy flexing for the first day for the strongest long-term bond.

Removing the wrap

Peel slowly from one corner at a low angle. Gentle heat from a hair dryer makes removal even easier. The 3M adhesive is designed to release cleanly without damaging Kydex or polymer surfaces.

Common questions

Will TackGear Wrap damage my Kydex holster?

No. The 3M adhesive is designed for use on polymer and hard surfaces and removes cleanly without leaving residue or damaging the finish on Kydex holsters.

Can I reposition the wrap after applying it?

Yes — before you apply firm pressure the wrap is repositionable. Once you've pressed it down firmly and the adhesive has fully activated, repositioning is not recommended.

How long will it last?

With proper surface prep and a clean application, TackGear Wrap holds up through daily carry, range use, sweat, and weather. The 3M adhesive and 500D Cordura are both built for hard use.

What surfaces does it work on?

TackGear Wrap bonds to Kydex, polymer, hard plastic, metal, and most smooth surfaces. It works best on clean, flat or lightly contoured surfaces. Heavily textured surfaces may require additional pressure along the edges.
